In London W4 for Over 25 Years

The Chiswick Choir has been resident in London W4 for more than 25 years. It was founded by the indefatigable John Thackray (who was involved with many choral groups) and has been directed by its present conductor, Alistair Jones for more than 20 years. His 20th anniversary, in 2004, was celebrated with a performance of Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius.

During its long career the Choir's repertoi re has grown but is principally based on the European tradition from the 16th to 20th centuries. In 2006 the Choir sang its first 21st century piece with the world premier of Alistair Jones's Stabat Mater, written for The Chiswick Choir and mezzo soprano Louise Tucker. A list of the choir's repertoire includes most of the major works suited to a choir of its size – the Bach Passions, Mass in B minor, oratorios by Handel, works by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, Verdi's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah and so on. Excursions into the 20th century have included performances of Britten's Saint Nicolas, Tippet's A Child of Our Time and Stravinsky's A Symphony of Psalms.

We are registered with Making Music (National Federation of Music Societies).

Weekly Rehearsals

We rehearse on Tuesday evenings, at 8:00pm, in the Church Hall of St. Michael's, Elmwood Road, Grove Park, London W4.

Term dates for our 2007/8 season are:

• 4th September 2007 – 1st December 2007
• 8th January 2008 – 15th March 2008
• 22nd April 2008 – 28th June 2008

Autumn term for 2008/9 season starts 2nd September 2008.

The Choir AGM (Annual General Meeting) was on Tuesday 23rd October 2007 at St Michael's Church Hall, Elmwood Road, Chiswick, W4.
