Mark Chaundy read music as a choral scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford before taking up a place on the post-graduate programme at the Royal College of Music, London, supported by The Countess of Munster and The Arts Council of Wales. He has appeared in masterclasses with Wolfgang Holzmair, Sarah Walker, and recently with Sir Thomas Allen at the Britten-Pears School and David Wilson-Johnson in Ferrandou, France. He studies with Ryland Davies. Recital highlights include working with Ned Rorem on performances of his songs in Tanglewood and a Britten programme with Roger Vignoles. His regular concert performances include Bach's St. John Passion with Peter Schreier at St. John's Smith Square, Wigmore Hall with David Wilson-Johnson and The Wallace Collection; Kurt Weill's Seven Deadly Sins with Cleo Laine; and concerts with Andrew Parrot and the London Mozart Players. Operatic roles to date include Cadmus (Handel Semele) for Youthful Promise, Pergolesi's Ill Maestro di musica, New Chamber Opera, Buonafede (Haydn Il Mondo della Luna) for Cambridge Chamber Opera, Adonis (John Blow Venus and Adonis) for the Benslow Music Trust. Last summer Mark sang L'Horloge Comitoise/Le Chat (Ravel L'Enfant et les Sortilèges) as part of the Tanglewood Music Festival U.S.A. vocal program, and last February sang David (Mascagni L'amico Fritz) for Opera Omnibus. He currently lives in Islington, sharing a house with several friends, no pets and lots of books. |
