Welcome to Chiswick Choir and Orchestra

The Chiswick Choir has been resident in London W4 for more than 25 years. It was founded by the indefatigable John Thackray (who was involved with many choral groups) and has been directed by its present conductor, Alistair Jones for more than 20 years. His 20th anniversary, in 2004, was celebrated with a performance of Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius.

During its long career the Choir's repertoire has grown but is principally based on the European tradition from the 16th to 20th centuries. In 2006 the Choir sang its first 21st century piece with the world premier of Alistair Jones's Stabat Mater, written for The Chiswick Choir and mezzo soprano Louise Tucker. A list of the choir's repertoire includes most of the major works suited to a choir of its size – the Bach Passions, Mass in B minor, oratorios by Handel, works by Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, Verdi's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Elijah and so on. Excursions into the 20th century have included performances of Britten's Saint Nicolas, Tippet's A Child of Our Time and Stravinsky's A Symphony of Psalms.
